Success Stories

Preparation for ERP Transformation

Industry: Chemical Manufacturing

Results:

  • Established a scalable LeanIX foundation, enabling a single source of truth for Enterprise Architecture (EA) to support future EA practices and continuous business transformation.
  • Delivered transparency into the AS-IS architecture and its alignment with business functions.
  • Defined a template for modeling target and transition architectures, and supported evaluation of transition scenarios and migration approaches for SAP S/4HANA
  • Outlined the approach for strategy modeling and goal setting – including evaluation and tracking of realization strategies.
  • Equipped architects with documentation guidelines and training, enabling them to model, update, and report on key factsheets in LeanIX, to ensure a smooth ERP transformation.
  • Facilitated the development of an actionable transformation roadmap outlining the steps and changes necessary for a smooth transition to SAP S/4HANA.

Challenge:

A chemical manufacturer sought to establish a single source of truth for their Enterprise Architecture (EA) using LeanIX. This initiative was driven by their broader business transformation program, focusing on preparing for a seamless transition from multiple SAP and non-SAP ERP systems to SAP S/4HANA.

To achieve this, the organization needed to identify their current IT architecture and define their medium- and long-term target ERP architecture. This foundation was essential for evaluating different transition scenarios and migration approaches. Additionally, they needed a transformation roadmap detailing the necessary steps and changes to prepare their systems, processes and myriads of dependencies for the upcoming ERP transformation.

Solution:

To address these challenges and support the manufacturer’s goals, we, at Konfident, provided them with a comprehensive solution, which included the following key elements:

  • Implementation of LeanIX Foundation: Designed, configured, and tested the elements of their LeanIX model, ensuring it could support both AS-IS (aligned with how it supports business functions) and target architecture modeling.
  • Strategy Alignment and Data Import: Helped to model and align their LeanIX strategy, ensuring it was relevant and actionable for the organization's future EAM practices. Based on this we facilitated the import of high-quality data in alignment with this strategy.
  • Target Architecture Definition: Supported the organization in defining their target ERP architecture by enabling them to evaluate transition scenarios and migration approaches, aligning it with the requirements for a smooth SAP S/4HANA transition.
  • Documentation Guidelines: Developed documentation guidelines for the ERP transformation, guiding architects on modeling and updating the target architecture and supporting the transition roadmap.
  • Enablement of Core Team: Developed training materials and conducted sessions to enable the core EA team to model, report, and maintain their LeanIX workspace to maximize their LeanIX capabilities for their transformation efforts.
  • Transformation Roadmap: Facilitated the development of a detailed transition roadmap, including scenario evaluation and actionable migration steps, to guide the organization through the ERP transformation process.

By supporting the organization and core EA team with this solution, we ensured that the architects were empowered to maintain momentum and deliver consistent progress toward their transformation goals.

Success:

The chemical manufacturer now has a strong foundation in LeanIX to support their Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) practices and their SAP S/4HANA transformation. They gained valuable transparency into their AS-IS IT landscape and how it supports their business functions. The organization is successfully positioned to evaluate transition scenarios and migration approaches. Thus, enabling them to define and model their target ERP architecture and corresponding transformation roadmap. Additionally, the documentation guidelines and training materials we developed enabled the architects and core team to leverage LeanIX effectively according to their ERP transformation goals.

With the actionable transformation roadmap in place, the organization is well-prepared to evaluate, communicate and execute transition scenarios and migration approaches, ensuring a smoother and more efficient migration to SAP S/4HANA. This foundational work also positions them for sustained success in future EA initiatives.
